The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 is a sophisticated, multi-functional inverter/charger that brings together the proven capabilities of the original MultiPlus topology with a streamlined, modern design optimized for Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This 48V powerhouse seamlessly integrates a 5000VA true sine wave inverter, an advanced 70A adaptive battery charger, and a high-speed 50A AC transfer switch into a single, compact enclosure. Designed to serve as the core infrastructure for grid-tied backup, self-consumption optimization, or complete off-grid setups, it provides maximum flexibility and unmatched system stability.
At the heart of its operational efficiency are Victron’s proprietary PowerControl and PowerAssist features. These technologies monitor the total current drawn from the AC input source (such as a generator or a restricted grid connection). If an imminent overload is detected, the unit first lowers its battery charging current to prioritize the building's active loads. If demand still exceeds the source supply, the inverter instantly draws power from the connected 48V battery bank to supplement the shortfall. This allows the system to comfortably handle high-surge inductive loads, such as air conditioning units and pumps, without tripping supply circuit breakers or requiring an oversized generator.
The MultiPlus-II is engineered with dual AC outputs to facilitate smart energy distribution. The primary AC-out-1 output features full, no-break UPS functionality. In the event of an outage, the internal transfer switch takes over the loads so rapidly (under 20 milliseconds) that computers and critical infrastructure continue running without resetting. The secondary auxiliary output (AC-out-2) is active exclusively when a live AC input supply is present, ensuring that heavy-draw, non-essential appliances like water heaters or underfloor heating do not prematurely deplete your energy reserves during an extended power failure.
For large-scale or commercial installations, the system offers exceptional scalability. Up to six units can operate in parallel to scale up total power output, and three-phase or split-phase configurations can be effortlessly established using identical units. While this model does not include an onboard GX control hub, it features dual VE.Bus ports, allowing seamless connection to an external GX supervisor (such as a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX). This integration provides comprehensive monitoring, firmware updates, and full system configuration via the free Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal. The MultiPlus-II is fully compatible with leading managed lithium battery brands as well as traditional lead-acid configurations.
