Solar PV Needs Analysis

The 8.0kW rated power of the Sunsynk 8kW when matched with 2 x 5.32kWh Sunsynk batteries and an 8.26kWp solar array, delivers up to 8kW of discharge power - big enough for most households.

The Sunsynk hybrid inverter is large enough to offer protection for almost all appliances and circuits in the event of a power cut.

The Sunsynk system comes with an energy meter and communication interface built in. The Cat5e cable for connecting the inverter to the battery and a longer length for connecting the Energy Meter to the inverter are both included.

• 230V single phase

• Self consumption and feed-in to the grid options

• Auto re-start while AC is recovering

• Programmable

• Compatible to mains voltage or generator power

• Overload / temperature / short circuit protection

• Supports Wi-Fi monitoring

• 3-Stage MPPT charging for optimal battery performance

• Timing adjustable for convenient and efficient operation

• On-grid, off-grid or uninterrupted power supply (UPS)

Produce 1180 Units* of electricity per month or 37 Units per day. Store 10kWh or units in the batteries for use at night or during power outages.

Excess solar production can be fed onto any circuits not included on the inverters back output and in some cases can even be used to back feed your meter (municipality permitting)

This kit is a special offer made up of the items listed above

Questions

Question

The half cell solar panels. Do they work in lets say an overcast day and do they work at night i.e. a full moon?

Answer

Hi Ian, the more light they have, the better they work (up to and sometimes possibly even a little over their rating).

There is not enough light at night to generate any meaningful power.

Please see this page here for more information on solar panel power yields:https://www.solar-shop.co.za/content/23-Typical-Solar-PV-Production-Curve

Question

Would it be possible to add two 600w wind turbines to this system? What is the maximum input wattage that the Sunsynk inverter can handle? Can one add additional Hubble batteries to this system for overnight storage? Could an EV charge port be added at a later stage? I am currently restricted to single phase.

Answer

Hi Barry, yes you can do all of these things, although when it comes to wind turbines, you will need to verify the suitability of the proposed wind turbine with the turbine distributor/manufacturer, particularly with respect to the MPPT input which cannot exceed 400V. You can put up to 3500W of wind power input on the 8kW Sunsynk.

Question

What is the max distance that the Batteries are allowed to be from your inverter? What is the max distance that your PV panels are also allowed to be from the inverter?

Answer

Hi Vian, there is no max distance as such. The longer the cable run, the bigger the voltage drop will be, which in turn will result in less power being delivered to the inverter. This applies to both the panels and the batteries.

Short story, you can have long cable runs (100m) on the panels, but keep the batteries under the inverter so that you have 1 -2 m cable runs.

Question

Must you put a ups with the system not to have a dip in power e.g computer use (restart)

Answer

Hi Johan, no generally it's fast enough change over to keep computers up. However you may want to consider a small UPS if you have very sensitive electronic equipment that doesn't like the brief power dip.

Question

Is it true that the batteries must be kept airconditioned ? Is the inverter's noise level low enough to install it in my TV room ?

Answer

Hi Nico, that's a no to both questions; No you don't need to keep the batteries airconditioned and no, the noise level is not low enough to install it in your TV room.

Question

Hi, is this system IP65 rated for outdoor use?

Answer

Hi Adrian, the Sunsynk inverter is IP65 rated, but the Pylontech batteries are indoor only.

Question

Hello Is this 8kW hybrid PV kit complete for electrical installation, and to install on a tile roof. Thanks.

Answer

Hi Samantha, yes the kit is set up to be installed on a tiled roof. It is complete to the point where the AC output can be connected to your DB board and essential circuits by a licenced electrician.
