Question

Hi. I currently have two BYD-Boxs with six BYD B-Box Pro 2.5-10.0 Battery Modules and room for two more. These batteries are hard to find and hideously expensive. I was told Pylontech batteries are compatible. Can you please advise. Thanks. Si

Hi Simon. No, unfortunately these two  batteriy brands/models will not work together. Each brand uses its own battery‑management unit and CAN protocol. The BYD B‑Box Pro modules talk only to a BYD BMU, while Pylontech modules talk to a Pylontech BMU. The two systems cannot “see” or balance each other so they will not form a single, safe battery bank.

If you use two US3000C batteries coupled in parallel and a 5KW invertor capable of 80 A charging rate, can you increase the charging current limit to 40 Amps or is it still limited to the maximum charging current of a single battery? Would the same apply if you connected a third battery in parallel?

Hi Duncan, yes - each US3000C can deliver a continuous 35A, so if you parallel them you can charge (and discharge) them at anywhere up to 70A.

With three batteries, you could charge them at 105A if your inverter was capable of doing so.

Hi Alan, the UP2500 is a 24V battery whereas the UP5000 is a 48V battery, so it will depend on the battery voltage of your inverter.

Hi Paul, yes you can have two inverters and four batteries connected together. You would need to select the correct Axpert however, In this case, an MKSIII or a KING inverter.

Hi, If I were to connect 4 of these to 2 Axpert MPS5K inverters in parallel, how are the batteries managed? Via their own system or can they connect to the inverter for management. If not, can they be managed another way? Like an external BMS?

Hi Stuart, the Pylontech batteries communicate with some Axpert models like the VMIII, KING, and MAX and are managed automatically.

In the case of the Axpert MKSII or some older models, this functionality does not exist and you can either set the battery parameters manually through the inverter settings, or you can buy something like the ICC Raspberry PI (LINK) to control the batteries and perform other monitoring tasks on your set up

Answer

Hi Yash, the Pylontech's and many other Li-ion phosphate batteries) are what is know as 0.5C batteries.

In essence, this means that they cannot be fully discharged from full over a time period of less than 2 hours.

Put another way, you cannot draw over 1.75kW from the battery for any period of more than a few seconds - to do so would drain the battery too fast

Therefore if you have only 1 of these batteries connected to a 5kW inverter (assume no solar panels for clarity) and there is a power faliure, your inverter will effectively be limited in its power output to 175kW.

Only when you have 3 batteries connected (3 x1.75kW = 5.25kW) will you be able to draw the full 5kW from the battery bank that the inverter is capable of delivering.

Hi Jasper, yes the US3000C will work with most Axpert type inverters that have 48V battery inputs.

BMS communications, however, is only available on a handful of the latest Axpert models such as the King and the VMIII
