![]() | Question: Good Morning , can this system be set up for/or Grid tie (priority Solar , then Eskom , then Battery when Load shedding. |
Answer: Hi Kobus. No, you can have either Solar, battery, utility or Utility, solar, battery
![]() | Question: HI, can the system set that it mainly use the solar/battery power and only use grid power if really needed |
Answer: Hi Henry, yes, within the limits of the system output.
![]() | Question: Hi, Im wanting to run my pool motor on solar. Would this system work. Its a .75kw motor. |
Answer: Hi Elliot. No, this isn't a good application for this kit. The inverter is big enough but there is only 600W worth of panels, and the batteries would only last an hour and a half under no sun conditions. If you want to save money on your pool pump, the best solution is a straight grid-tie solution like this one here: https://www.solar-shop.co.za/diy-kits/470-grid-tie-solar-power-kit-1kw.html
![]() | Question: Hi there, I want to use this to run a satelite wifi system, as a semi grid tie system, in that during any given day we have power cuts of +-18hrs. So during that time I want this system to run the wifi( which pulls less than 30W) but is there an option to keep the inverter plugged into mains so that when the mains power comes back on it will then charge the batteries? My apologies if this is a stupid question but I,m very new to this solar tech |
Answer: Hi James, yes you can plug the mains into the inverter and set it to recharge the batteries automatically when grid power returns.
![]() | Question: Good day. Is it 1 x unit of usage per battery, or 1 x unit per 2 batteries? |
Answer: Hi Ashley, at the battery manufacturers recommended depth of discharge of 50%, each battery will offer you approximately half a unit. So it's 1 unit of storage capacity for the 2-battery bank.
![]() | Question: What is the difference between this off-grid kit and a hybrid kit as it seems this can also connect to mains electricity via a hybrid inverter? |
Answer: Hi Mark. A hybrid inverter is a combination of a battery inverter (like this one - they still have grid inputs) and a grid-tie inverter which can reverse power through your meter. You can have a look at the different types of solar power technologies that are in use here: https://www.solar-shop.co.za/content/10-solar-pv-system-types
![]() | Question: What would the impact of double the battery capacity be? Would the solar panels need to be upgraded or increased in quantity? |
Answer: Hi Sam, yes you would have to double the panels and look at the Off-grid Solar Kit - 3kVA Plus
![]() | Question: Hi, I want a system for a small 2 bed cottage off grid. Basically a fridge freezer, A++, LED lights x 5, a outside LED spot light , A small washing machine during the day. and maybe run small power tools during the day. Will this manage this? |
Answer: Hi Ralph, Probably not. You will need to complete either our solar sizing spreadsheet or our info form in order to properly calculate your requirements. Unfortunately we cannot accurately size a system for "a few small power tools". We need to know the power draw of each and the expected daily use. You can find the spreadsheet and/or form here: https://www.solar-shop.co.za/content/15-solar-load-sizing-sheet
![]() | Question: Thank you for excellent website.I would like to run the following during load shedding. 1tv 1 decoder 1 fan 2to 3 lights and 1 more plug for a charger. Will this 3kw kit be sufficient, and the cost for installation. Thank you. |
Answer: Hi Pieter, thanks. This kit would back up those items for around three hours at a battery DOD of 50% which is the recommended depth of discharge.
![]() | Question: Good day i am keen on this package what will cost be to add another 2 batteries and how many more additional 5w leds can i power up, |
Answer: Hi Jay, you won't be able to run additional batteries in a purely off grid mode, as the panels will not be able to charge the batteries fully. You would need to have it connected to the mains as well. The inverter will determine the number of appliances you can run simultaneously. The batteries will determine how long you can run for.
![]() | Question: I am looking for a basic system that can power 5 ceiling fan lights and 10 other lights, electric bar fridge and TV for 1 hour or so. Off grid. |
Answer: Hi Mags This kit will be great for this.
