More info

Our 3kVA Off Grid kit consists of:

  • 1 x 3kVA Solar Hybrid Inverter (product link)

  • 2 x 260W Cinco Solar Grade A Solar Modules (product link)

  • 2 x OmniPower OPR Gel Deep Cycle Solar Batteries (product link)

  • 25m x 4.0mm Solar Cable

  • MC4 Connector kit

  • Mounting Clips and channel (2 x 2m)

Please note that these kits do not include installation.

For those not overly familiar with solar power, this kit can store around 1 Unit of electricity in the batteries.

This means that at night when there is no sun, you could watch a 300W TV for about 3 hours before the batteries went flat (300W x 3 hours = 900Whrs = 0.9 Units of electricity)

OR

you could run 20 x 5W LED globes for 10 hours (5W x 20 x10 hours = 1000Whrs = 1 Unit of electricity)

OR

a 2000W kettle for half an hour straight (2000W * 0.5 hours = 1000Whrs = 1 Unit of electricity) *Not sure why you would do that but who knows?*

OR

any combination of the above that adds up to 1 Unit.

During the day, the solar panels will first charge the batteries and after that will add whatever power they can produce, so you will be able to go longer depending on weather conditions.

If you need to do more than the above you need a bigger kit. Please contact us and we can do a quote for you.

HiHow is it possible that your 3kVA solar kit can cost only R14990.00 and all other solar companies charge R 52000.00 and above?Kind RegardsHeinrich Answer:
Hi thereThe kit on offer comprises 2 x 260Wp panels, a 3kVA inverter with built-in MPPT and two deep cycle batteries and the price is very much market related. It is possible that the R52,000 you refer to is for 3kW worth of panels (which would be around 12 of the panels we're offering), although this is just a guess having not had sight of these offers.Regards Solar Shop Support

  • Asked by Hanno van Wyk
    on 28/11/2017
Hello - will this system be able to maintain a 1500 W (240V) +/- 10% draw 24/7? Is there a fail-over option to the normal electrical mains - how long wil the batteries last with those loads and does the electrical feed come from the inverter or via the deep cells? Thanks Answer:
Hi HannoThe inverter can maintain 1500W easily since it is a 3kVA pure sine wave inverter. You will need to set up a relay so that if the inverter fails the mains will kick in, which can be easily done by any electrician. At 50% depth of discharge at that load, the batteries will last less than an hour. You will need many more batteries to run that size load.Regards Solar Shop Support

Good day, I'm looking for a quotation for a solar kit that will power a 22kw mono pump motor. Answer:
Hi Floyd, thanks for your enquiry. unfortunately we don't sell kits that big. You're talking a major installation here. You'd need at least 100 panels! Email us on support@solar-shop.co.za if you'd like to take it further. Regards, Solar Shop Support
  • Asked by Oscar
    on 06/12/2017
Hi there, It's me Oscar again, please advise if the 3Kva kit can run 24 x 7w led lights for 12 hours, 2 x 74w tv with 1 decoder for 6/7 hours and 3 x 90w fridges 24 hours.Kind regards Oscar Answer:
Hi OscarThe two batteries in the kit will only store about 1kWh (Unit of electricity) of USABLE power. Your lights alone will need 2 Units (24 lights x &W x 12 hours = 2016Wh = 2.016kWh) TV's: 2 TV's x 74W x 7hours = 1036Whr = 1.035kWh. Fridges are trickier, but you can count on a Unit for each fridge. Total units needed: 6. Therefor you would need 12 batteries. Then you'd need more panels to charge all those extra batteries each day. The you'd need a bigger inverter that can handle the solar panel inputs (The one is this kit can only handle 600W of power. Drop us an email to support@solar-shop.co.za if you'd like a quote on a bigger system Regards Solar Shop Support

    on 07/12/2017
if i install the solar system to only run my plugs and lights.(plugs must handle 1xfridge, 2xfreezes and tvs hifis clock radios) (lights 2xled floresent lights 3x lights with build in fans and must able to run for about 12 hours) how much will it cost me. do i need something big or small system. I live in Bethal Mpumulanga and will you send someone to install the system for me.the system must able to switch on as soon as the Eskom power goe off and turn it-self off,and must able to give power for about 12 hours or more Answer:
Hi Shyam The system advertised store about 1kWh (Unit) of USABLE energy. Fridges typically consume around 1 Unit per 24 hour period. This figure however can vary wildly due to local weather conditions, state of the door seals and compressor, amount of use and load of the fridge, etc. Your lights will be another 2 - 3 units a day. Lastly, unfortunately we don't have any installations capabilities in your area at the moment. Regards Solar Shop Support
  • Asked by Tshepi
    on 09/12/2017
Can you add more panels, batteries and inverters over time for more power? Also do you have payment options like a lay by and paying in instalments over a period of 3 - 6 months? Answer:
Hi Tshepi. The inverter in this kit only takes 600W of sola panel input (2 large panels). If you wanted to expand you have to but the 5kVA version which can take up to 12 large panels (min. 3 panels). Batteries can be added, but it is good practice to always replace ALL the batteries at once, since the older batteries will have lost a lot of their performance and will drag the performance of the new batteries down. Finally, you can pay by instalments by registering with our credit provider, mobicred. www.mobicred.co.za Regards Solar Shop Support

    on 14/12/2017
Good day, l would like to know if l want to buy a solar kit that will run a two bedroom house, which one must l buy. Thank you Answer:
Hi Shepherd, thanks for your interest. In order for us to give you a meaningful quote we need the following information: 1) What appliances and electrical items you want to use. 2) The average number of hours per day you would like to use them for. 3) The power rating of each item. 4) The area you live in (for calculating how much sunlight you will get). 5) The number of days the system should run without sun (e.g. Cloudy or rainy days when the solar panels will produce very little energy) - bear in mind that for everyday you want the system to run without sun you going to be almost doubling the cost of the system. We realise that collecting all this information can sometimes be a bit burdensome, but if you're serious about installing solar and we don't have this information, there is no way of accurately determining the correct size of a system to suit you. TIP: Forget about trying to power stoves, geysers or anything with an element really (except perhaps a small kettle) as it is simply not cost effective. You're better off using gas at the moment. We suggest you email your requirements to support@solar-shop.co.za Regards, Solar Shop Support

  • Asked by Vishnu
    on 09/01/2018
Dear Madam/Sir, I have the same 3KVA system with 2 X 255 Watt panels and 4 X 100 AH batteries. I have 2 more Panels. is there any way to connect them as I am already close to the maximum of 600 Watts? Alternatively which component should be upgraded to provide optimum return? I live in Durban. Regards, Vishnu Answer:
Hi Vishnu. If the 3kVA is a 24Vdc then unfortunately there's no way to add more panels. If you add them in series you will exceed the MPPT input voltage and if you parallel them you will exceed the rated input current. The 48Vdc version will handle 900W (one additional panel). Your best bet, if budget allows is to upgrade to a 5kVA inverter which can handle up to 4000W (around 16 250W panels). Regards Solar Shop Support

For an 8 corner rondavel with 6 lights, tv, geyser ,fridge, kettle, iron what kit can you recommend @ what possible price Answer:
Hi David. We would not recommend run a geyser on these systems. You need to get a dedicated solar geyser. For the rest of it the 5kVA kit (https://www.solar-shop.co.za/diy-kits/66-off-grid-solar-kit-5kva-0612292609252.html) would be the correct solution. Regards Solar Shop Support

  • Asked by Sybrand
    on 26/01/2018
How much would the 3kva system cost me with a 5kva inverter Answer:
Hi Sybrand, you'd have to add another panel to the system in order to have the MPPT on the 5kVA inverter operate optimally. Additionally you'd have to add another two batteries since the 5kVA inverter is a 48Vdc input as opposed to the 24Vdc of the 3kVA. For your interest, we sent you a quote for the above configuration to the email address supplied. Regards Solar Shop Support

    on 30/01/2018
I need a solar powered system that can run all house hold appliances (Ironing, Geyser fridge) during the day and at night with having to worry about switching off some appliance to use others. Answer:
Good Day B. Unfortunately, this is just not viable. It is never a good idea to try and run a geyser, stove, iron or any high power appliance off solar PV. A solution to do this would cost hundreds of thousands of Rands. Better to get a prposer solar geyser and to use gas where possible to cook with. A small iron used very infrequently may be possible.
